00:00:12 Stef
Welcome to Happy Monday on Creating Happiness. I am Steph and this is Sheela.
00:00:18 Sheela
Hello.
00:00:19 Stef
Hi, good morning, good evening, good afternoon. Wherever you are in the world, welcome to Creating Happiness So. We both had a very interesting week, didn't we, Sheila? We.
00:00:31 Sheela
Did indeed.
00:00:32 Stef
So we decided to talk about getting out of our comfort zone, yes.
00:00:38 Sheela
It's not always easy to do, is it? Because we're obviously, we're comfortable in our comfort zone. We we get into the habit of repeating the same kind of things and you know, life can get boring.
00:00:50 Stef
Yeah, I cannot. Look, this is a quite an interesting topic for me because I'm twins or Gemini. And if you know anything about this type of people is that one thing that would drive us away is boredom. Repetition is literally, I don't know, the worst thing that can happen to me. You know, I get to a point where I just, I cannot stand it. I'm bored out of my mind.
00:01:20 Sheela
Well, I think, yeah. I mean, yeah, I suppose. I think a lot of people feel. Secure and safe in repeating the same kind of activities or the same kind of behavior?
00:01:35 Stef
I feel anxious thinking about it.
00:01:37 Sheela
Do you? That's interesting, isn't it? Because I think I'm probably more that kind of person who finds a a lovely, secure, homely, comforting feeling, knowing that I'm going to be, you know, doing the same thing. Sounds really boring actually. But then there are times when I I believe that stepping out of that comfort zone is really the only time we learn and grow from a a self development spiritual perspective. We only learn and grow when we are outside of that comfort zone.
00:02:17 Stef
Yes, And when you get out of the comfort zone, you also begin to notice things that you wouldn't otherwise.
00:02:24 Sheela
Well, it depends how scared you are.
00:02:27 Stef
I'm just thinking, yeah.
00:02:29 Sheela
Well, I just completed one of the world's most dangerous walks in southern Spain last week and there were some very interesting feelings coming up. We had a couple of about 3K to walk before we got to the walk, if you see what I mean, Which was for me. Filled with trepidation, because every step I took I thought, am I mad? Am I really going to do this? And then So I had quite an interesting time with my mind. But then by the time we got there, I had decided that this was OK. I was OK. If I fell from this boardwalk up a mountain, then that was how it was meant to be. And once I'd kind of come to it sounds a bit dramatic, but I kind of thought if that's the worst that's going to happen and that's absolutely the worst that could happen and I'm OK with that.
00:03:32 Stef
That's amazing. And how how did you feel afterwards?
00:03:36 Sheela
Very, very, very tired, but elated, elated.
00:03:41 Stef
Yeah, that's just it, isn't it? So would you do it again?
00:03:46 Sheela
I would if if. Circumstances, but I've done it. So yes, I'm not really want to repeat stuff like.
00:03:52 Stef
That no.
00:03:54 Sheela
But if I was with a group of people and they wanted to do it, I would, yeah, come with me, join my gang. I know what to do.
00:04:01 Stef
But isn't it amazing how you were terrified before and the thought of doing it was quite scary and now you're like, you know what, I can do it again.
00:04:10 Sheela
Yeah, absolutely. So this proves my point of coming out of your comfort zone is where we grow. So something in me changed, You say changed. And yeah, I can't say anymore than that. It wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been prepared to push myself. And I did need a little push. Not a physical push, you understand?
00:04:31 Stef
No.
00:04:32 Sheela
No, no, no. But So what about you, Steph?
00:04:37 Stef
Well. I went to Spain on a work conference. Well, a conference, basically business conference. And yeah, I gave a presentation in front of a group of people which, you know, I do the podcast, I do, you know, various things. But this was taking it to another level because it was a big, massive place.
00:04:58 Sheela
So it's a live.
00:04:59 Stef
Yeah, exactly. Yes. Live talk in front of people I hardly know. Really. Many of them I actually don't know. And yeah, and I was the the presentation I was giving was had the potential of being quite boring and quite unengaging. And actually I felt as though I did really well and I managed to get engagement and really get through to the people who were listening.
00:05:27 Sheela
That's fantastic.
00:05:28 Stef
So that that was definitely out of my comfort zone.
00:05:31 Sheela
So how did you feel?
00:05:33 Stef
I felt amazing. I want to do more. Yeah. Yeah.
00:05:37 Sheela
Is a real buzz.
00:05:37 Stef
It is, yeah. Yeah, it's it's. I love connecting with people and that is an amazing way to do so yeah, so really getting out of our comfort zone can only be beneficial.
00:05:52 Sheela
Absolutely. I can't think of anytime when I've been outside of my comfort zone that I haven't ended up feeling brilliant. Whatever it is, whether it's a small thing or or. Big thing doesn't matter. Try try it.
00:06:08 Stef
Yes, I guess one of the things that always makes me do it is thinking if I don't do it, how will I feel about myself? You know, if I don't do this because I'm afraid, how will I feel? And for me the answer is not good.
00:06:24 Sheela
Well, you end up feeling more afraid, don't you? Because you were afraid to be afraid, so you chose to not do it, which makes you feel. Less of a person.
00:06:34 Stef
That's right.
00:06:36 Sheela
Yeah.
00:06:36 Stef
It's not.
00:06:37 Sheela
Good. No. So yes. I can't think of a time then. So we're saying if you get if you can be brave and take the courage to step outside of your comfort zone, only good can happen, yes.
00:06:51 Stef
100% in.
00:06:52 Sheela
Fact on my way to the walk, one of the things that changed my mindset was a mantra that I said to myself.
